The Romans in Britain

2010/2011 > History > The Romans

The Romans came to Britain in 55BC. They landed in Kent (Cantium) at Deal. The Britons tried but were not strong enough to defeat the Romans who only Stayed at few days.

The next year the Romans came back with 5 legions and 2000 horsemen. The Britons tried to stop the Romans at Bigbury near Canterbury but the Romans defeated them again, crossed the River Medway and then the River Thames, and beat the Celtic tribes there.

The Romans went back to Gaul (France) and did not return to Britain for about a hundred years.
