Before the Romans invaded Britain many tribes lived there. Among these tribes were people called Celts who had come over from Europe to settle in Britain. All the tribes living in Britain were known as Britons.
The Celts were great warriors. Tribes sometimes fought one another over who owned the land.

Their Chiefs rode Chariots. In battle any prisoners taken were sold as slaves.

The Celts were very religious people and they worshipped many different gods. Their Priests were called Druids.

Great stone circles were built by the Celts and many can still be seen today. One is called Stonehenge found in Amesbury, Wiltshire.
